Not ready yet for multi-choice

WE THANK Mr Tan Shao Yi for his letter ('Multi-choice muddle'; June 18).
The aim of the Contactless e-Purse Application Standard (Cepas) card, issued by EZ-Link and Nets, is to encourage consumers to use these cards for small-value transactions.

=> Sure, so that the FAPee dogs can milk 'convenience charge' from Sporns while creating new inconvenience!
We recognise that not all consumers have the same needs, and our goal is to provide choice to the consumer.
Both EZ-Link and Nets have made significant investments in building the Cepas infrastructure and encouraging both merchants and consumers to embrace Cepas cards as an alternative mode of payment for small-value transactions.
While we support the move towards enabling the terminals to accept ez-link and Nets FlashPay cards or any other Cepas card, further study is needed.

IDA all for micro-payment choice

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
WE THANK Mr Tan Shao Yi for his letter ('Multi-choice muddle'; June 18).
Consumers now enjoy greater convenience in making micro-payments using their Contactless e-Purse Application Standard (Cepas) cards beyond public transport, with the number of terminals outside of the transport sector doubling from 5,000 to about 10,000 today, though most of the terminals currently only accept ez-link or Nets FlashPay cards.
For a terminal to accept all Cepas cards, business agreements between card issuers will have to be established.
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) shares Mr Tan's view that having terminals that accept all Cepas cards will bring added convenience to consumers and merchants.
We have been facilitating such a collaboration between the payment service providers to improve convenience and encourage greater use of infocomm technologies.
