At the mention of expensive drinks, I think that most will immediately think about wines and spirits. However, truth is, essence of chicken (or whatever) should be the most expensive per m.l., followed by the cultured milk drinks, even without the alcohol tax.

Is essence of chicken (or whatever) really that good? In Singapore, the main mass retail brands are Brand's and New Moon, with Eu Yan Sang a captive retail brand (their own stores only). Any difference?

Semen should be the most expensive edible fluid in the world.

I mean think about it, 1 shot of a few teaspoons would cost you anything from FOC to a few grand.

If you warm the chicken essence, its not that bad, but Brand's do have Chicken essence with Collagen in Thailand, that 1 more ex, LOL :p:p:p

Thailand got a different chicken essence culture from Singapore. They sell single bottle from the fridge just like soft drink. I've tried before, actually not bad when chilled, but warmed up still better.

Chicken essence is popular among the truck drivers in Thailand, who have to make long haul trips from city to city. They drink it to stay alert and as a health supplement.
Actually, it's more like a soup than a drink.

Cultured milk drinks are supposed to be good for digestion because of the good bacteria in them. Perhaps they are more expensive because of this quality.

Bird's nest is not a drink.
It's a errrr........................... nest? :)

Bird's nest is a premium soup just like shark's fin soup. However, bird's nest is also available in small bottles just like chicken essence and can be consumed chilled or warmed. For the same-sized bottle, I think that bird's nest is three to four times the price of chicken essence.

In strict technical terms, I think that chicken essence is not a soup, but a concentrate broth drink. Nobody drinks chicken essence from a bowl, like chicken soup. If someone empties four bottles to fill a bowl, drink it with a spoon and finish it up in a sitting, then I worry for him. However, he could probably do that safely with bird's nest, if he could afford it.

Where are the scientific proven benefits of Chicken's essence?

I doubt there is any.

I know of a woman friend who does something similar _ two, not four bottles with a raw egg thrown in

Chicken essence seems more popular with Asians particularly Chinese and Thai than with Europeans and Americans. Some may be surprised that it was first concocted in England by H.W. Brand, Royal Chef to King George IV as health food supplement in the 19th century. Hence, the brandname Brand's when it became commercialised. The British trading empire then enabled Brand's to reach Asia where it stayed welcome ever since.

Chicken essence quality drop compare to 10~20 year ago.
Last decade when you drink chicken essence can feel the different more energy and sleep less 2~3 hour still feel the same energy not tired at all.
Now better cook chicken soup yourself using electric slow cooker.
Better use kampung chicken because less oily.
:)
Ingredient can get it in Supermarket/traditional chinese medicine shop. They have prepack easy as 1 2 3. Wash the chicken and the ingredient and the all dump inside slow cooker. Best cook it 2 ~3 hr.
