SINGAPORE, June 21, 2010 (AFP) - A Swiss software consultant is expected to plead guilty to spray-painting a Singapore metro train with graffiti, an offence punishable by caning, court sources and local media said Monday.
Oliver Fricker, 32, appeared in court wearing a white shirt and striped blue tie, ignoring reporters' questions as he walked into the building for a brief pre-trial session prior to entering his plea on Thursday.

Singapore considers the intrusion a serious offence because its MRT transport system is believed to be the target of Islamic extremists in Southeast Asia, and the graffiti incident exposed security lapses.
The city-state is a close US ally often visited by American troops.
Fricker is out on bail of $100,000 and his passport has been impounded after prosecutors called him a flight risk.
Vandalism is punishable by up to three years' jail or a maximum fine of $2,000, plus three to eight strokes of a wooden cane, a punishment dating from British colonial rule.
In addition to the vandalism charge, Fricker faces two years' jail or a fine of 1,000 dollars, or both, for trespassing into a protected area.
Fricker's employer, Zurich-based Comit AG, which specialises in software for the financial industry, confirmed he had been suspended pending the outcome of the trial. He was about to return to Swizerland when he was arrested.
"He will be suspended until the court has made the decision, and after that we will decide how we will go forward," Comit AG's head of communications Christoph Oggenfuss told AFP.
Singapore has launched a global manhunt for Briton Lloyd Dane Alexander, believed to be Fricker's accomplice in the case.
A warrant of arrest was issued on June 8 and INTERPOL member countries were alerted to provide information on Alexander, who fled the country before a police report was filed.
Local media speculated that Alexander could have fled to Hong Kong.
Authorities believe Alexander and Fricker cut their way into the depot, a restricted zone surrounded by fences and topped with barbed wire, forcing metro operator SMRT to apologise for a "serious" security lapse.
SMRT said its staff mistook the graffiti for an elaborate advertisement, allowing the defaced train to ply its route for two days before it was investigated.

it's just graffiti...why the big fuss? we should thank him for exposing the lapse instead...

sure kena caning .... if not how to justify earlier sentencing on ang moh kia some years ago ??:o

He kicked some spurs into assmrt thick hide, and may have saved thousands of sinkies. If not assmrt still sleeping, the security lapse exploited by dissidents, many many liao liao.

Furthermore, he created art, he did not destroy, the other angmo kid destroyed property, thats that difference.

The hollow ring of the whole PAP govt's case is that until the break-in, the depot is just another vast ordinary space to store away the train cars for the night. Despite the extraordinariness much vaunted by the old man, nobody worth his millions ever thought much about its security or lack of. Instead of treating it as simply another mischief case, the PAP is trying to make a big federal case out of it, using the controlled media and its mouthpieces to drum up the noise to justify its kangaroo courts further actions which most likely will rile the whole international community.

On the other hand, the recent Chinkies and Indians who arrived under the loose immigration policy were treated with kids' gloves, as in the case of the PRC family who held up a public bus because it couldnt allow the family's wheelchair bound member on board for the simple reason the bus wasnt equipped with the facility. Notwithstanding the explanation, the PRC family made a ruckus and the Singapore Police instead of arresting them for causing a public nuisance and wrongfully detaining the bus and its passengers, was so afraid of embarrassing the govt authorities that they appeased them by paying for the taxi fares to bring them to their destination. The govt has become so hardup of foreign talents that it has stooped to this kind of lowly hypocrisy to ingratiate the new arrivals, while on the other hand, turning a deaf ear to Singaporeans' pleas and cries of protests.

sure kena caning .... if not how to justify earlier sentencing on US ang moh kia some years ago ??:o

These foreign talents are my babies, they confirm wont go to jail one, the most kanna fine only ah.

Do you want to bet with me Sinkies ah???

Don't disturb me ha, I leave the case to my kangaroos, they know what I want. I am very busy, every night have to read poems to my wife, cos we are the most loving couple.

What loving couple with my wife ah??? That is a bullshit!

Actually after I just became a Prime Minister for my kingdom Sinkgapore, I wanted to screw some hot chicks in Geylang that I've aimed for a long time. But my bitchy wife backside itch went and quickly drafted and set the Women's Charter Law in my kingdom Sinkgapore.

That bloody chow chee bye really pissed me off then, as there's goes my screwing plans in Geylang. So I have no choice but to go back home and only screwed her everyday.

And that chow chee bye somemore tells me to recite a poems to her every nite if not I cannot fuck her at all. So no choice again I need to recite a poems to her everyday ah.

So you all Sinkies knows ah, I recite poems to her everyday is not because I loved her, but I have no choice at all ah!

Ok get it Sinkies ah???

Caned with a jelly bean .

I think Singapore state use him to justify Police State .

Another wayang case, the damage was done when the world realised Peasantpore is full of hot air lackeys who are good at purging political pariahs rather than doing actual work.

One example that should highlight the rot is Limping Mas. He was able to limp to safety while Gestapo lackeys waited for 4 hours before their master wks, related to old autocrat by common law relationship issued the order to start the search publicly. The Gestapo reacted faster than light when they show up almost immediately whenever political pariahs have the gall to put up protest posters in public. Peasants contrast their fat cat speed responses when ringing up them to restore public order e.g. unruly FTs fighting or urinating in public.

Woe woe woe, peasantpore!

This guy's action is more serious than Fay's one, therefore technically the sentence should be heavier......BUT since this country being very pro-foreigner......most likely he will get away with a lighter sentence....likely a heavy fine....& that's all.

Latest from the ST is that his case will be put off. If you cannot solve it, postpone it, until crisis presents a political opportunity to siam.

maybe till after the elections. Then PAP will let him off with a big fine. Or hope that he'll jump bail and escape like Ionescu or MSK. That will solve a lot of things. By then, you KPKB also no use - the PAP is firmly in power for another 5 years and is moving on.

He will just be let off with a fine.

But if he malay teenager, sure kena 20 years , 12 strokes rotan.

1 country 2 systems. We welcome foreigners, even trash.
