I was a Malaysian and became a Singaporean in 2001.

I am intrigued by the unflattering comments and articles on your portal about the Singapore government and how the country is run.

Being an ex-Malaysian, I am able to compare and contrast my life in Malaysia and now, in Singapore.

I feel so safe and happy living in Singapore. I had a good education and hold a good job in Singapore which I will probably not have had if I remained in Malaysia. I worked hard for what I have achieved thus far in Singapore.

4 things I am so afraid of about living in Malaysia are:

a) High crime rate:
The police are not able to contain the crime and citizens feel unsafe. Their homes broken into, ladies are snatched of their handbags in broad daylight, kidnaps and thefts are frequent. You can read about them on Malaysia Today, Malaysian Insider and the likes.

b) Corrupted government and its agencies alike, from top to bottom:
You can’t get anything done unless you pay a bribe. The public service is slow, inefficient and all you do is wait and wait.

c) Corrupted police who prey on innocent citizens:
They do not protect the citizens. Citizens are so scared of the police. Look at the almost 2,000 deaths in police custody and still counting. I read it from the news portal of Malaysia. Innocent citizens are locked up and beaten up for no apparent reasons, including Indonesians, China students and tourists.

d) Low education standards and admission to local Universities is not by merit:

You can see how/what the Malaysian cabinet ministers say daily and they almost contradict each other. They give the impression they are “fighting” against their own citizens daily.
I find the Singapore government clean, efficient, smart and with foresight and cares for the citizens. I am very happy living here and am proud to be a Singaporean. I feel safe to approach the Singapore police for help should the need arises and I feel confident that the police will help me. I can get things done from the public agencies in a systematic manner and there is law and order here.

It may be a good idea to ask those unhappy Singaporeans to live in Malaysia for a while to have a taste of what life is like over there. In fact, I posed this suggestion to a complaining taxi driver before and he said, “Of course, you cannot compare with Malaysia.” and went silent thereafter.
On my business trips all over, I feel so “at ease” the moment I touched down at Changi Airport. I feel so at home. I will miss Singapore if I was away for a long while.

This FTrash spends so much time talking about corruption, but does he really know what leegalized corruption on the grandest scale mean?

PAP so smart, keep boosting their supporters, they know they piss off some sinkies by flooding the country with cheap labour, they know they lost these people support.
By quickly increasing the new citizens, they boost their supporters.

Singaporeans who depend solely on their birthrights are facing extinction. Sad but factual.
Keep calling people names if that invigorates you but the real problems are with you all yourselves. You failed miserably after being cocooned for so long and the best you guys can come out is FT this and FT that and when push comes to shove the best you could offer is chopping the seats at the food courts.

You have to shout louder if you want to be heard. Do something about it. Hong Lim Park can accomodate more than 15 persons. You are just a bunch of losers who dare not even wear the kangaroo's t'shirts for fear of being arrested but would spew expletives unbecoming of a mature and sane person when it comes to internet( oh, you takut jugak about your ISP being traced).

Come on people, stop being timid and complain incessantly without actually doing anything about your grievances. Constructive criticisms welcomed if you got something to offer but not those hit and run racial slurs that won't be doing anybody any good in a harmonious society.

Without blinking an eye, one can safely claim that citizens of Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Laos, Philippines etc would be delighted to make Singapore home. Comparing the aspirations of Malaysian born and raised chap with locals are 2 different things. Our standards are higher and we expect those standards to be maintained and not free fall like its happenning now.

Ask a homeless person and he will be delighted with any roof over his head.

You are absolutely right on all these counts. To the outsiders, Singapore is still a paradise compared to where they were from. That was the main reason for their emigration. But, to the Singaporeans who just count on the birthrights and do NS and belittled and scorned everything that isn't going their way is just like listen to broken record player. So boring lah.

They have their grievances and that should be laid bare in a concise and coherent way instead of sniping here and there like a neurotic chihuahua and spewing garbages that are only tolerated through the goodwill of forum owner and moderator. Thanks.

Wanting whatever in politic, please have an agenda and not shooting from the hips as most of us tend do here. Like I said before, 33% is a BIG minority and the way those figures are utilise will be determinant to the way Singapore is heading. LKY is not an immortal, he will have his day and then, what ???

Spell out clearly what is it that the populations want and line them up in clear ABC or 123 and consolidate all those into a more plausible manifesto. Let the people know where the country is heading to and what are those repercussions. Let the people decide. People are the bosses of democracy, ultimately, if they are informed and learned enough to realise what their single vote constitutes.
