The Nobel Prize in Physics goes to Charles K. Kao "for groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication" and to Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith "for the invention of an imaging semiconductor circuit – the CCD sensor".

Correction. He never worked for Bell Labs. He did his breakthrough work at STL(now Nortel) in the UK and then went on to work for ITT in the US.

nortel was part of the bell system before the canadian part of bell and northern electric spun away in '56, 10 years before his pioneering work on fiber optic. the caribbean part of bell were sold to itt. but you're right. stl, standard telecommunication labs, was a u.k. entity of stc before it was part of nortel. bell labs is a separate part of the bell system.
