A secret society leader went on the run for 12 years after a gang clash at Newton Food Centre in 1999 that left one man dead.
Chan Keng Hee fled to Malaysia, then to Thailand and finally to the Netherlands, where he remained for more than 10 years.
He was arrested at Changi Airport in May 2011 after returning because he missed his home and family. On Thursday , the 51-year-old bachelor was jailed seven years by a district court.
He had pleaded guilty in March to voluntarily causing grievous hurt and causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Then, a district court heard that Chan had armed himself with a knife when he and his accomplices attacked three men believed to have been members of a rival secret society.
One of them, Devadas Paneerselum, 29, later died.
