Ex-banker's 16 armed robberies
<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> TALLINN (Estonia) - A 41-YEAR-OLD unemployed former bank employee has confessed to 16 armed robberies, mainly of casinos in the Estonian capital Tallinn since 2007, prosecutors said. 'The suspect has confessed fully his involvement in all these robberies,' Prosecutor Toomas Tomberg was quoted as saying by Estonia's Postimees daily on Wednesday. The man, arrested six months ago, targeted casinos but was nabbed after a robbery in a Tallinn branch of Sampo bank that led investigators to suspect the thief must be someone very familiar with bank security systems. Investigators focused on the suspect, an ex-bank employee of another bank, and his DNA also later linked him to the several armed casino robberies in Tallinn in 2007-2009. The suspect, who also served in the Estonian national reserve, always used a mask. No one was ever hurt in his robberies which targeted well-known Tallinn casinos for sums of up to 10,000 euros (S$19,026). -- AFP
