DBS explains short notice on loan repayment

WE REFER to The Straits Times Online Forum letter on Friday, "Graduates given short notice about DBS loan repayment".

DBS acts as the administrator of tuition fee loans on behalf of tertiary institutions and can act only under instructions from the respective schools. The Ministry of Education's policy change for interest deferment on tuition fee loans takes effect from April 1. DBS had checked with the schools to defer the interest for the month of March as well since some students have loan repayments beginning in March, but has been instructed by the schools to defer the interest only from April.

Should students need any special arrangements, we can help to put their requests to the respective schools and MOE, but we seek their understanding that the final decision still lies with the schools.
