According to STOMPer john, some people were unable to board an overcrowded LRT train at Bukit Panjang even though they had been waiting for twenty minutes.

The STOMPer said:

"It was 7 am and the waiting time at Bukit Panjang for the next overcrowded LRT train was 10 minutes.

"Some who had waited for 20 minutes were still unable to board the overcrowded train to reach Choa Chu Kang MRT interchange."

STOMPer Nana was unhappy that no one was willing to give up his seat for this pregnant lady, and she was forced to stand in the MRT train.

In The Straits Times (Apr 23) however, the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) reports that more S'poreans are giving up their seats on public transport.

SMRT and SBS Transit have confirmed this. However, an SBS spokesman feels that improvements could be made in areas like moving to the rear to make room for boarding passengers.

The SKM general manager also said he hopes to work with transport industry operators to track the number of people who give up their seats on buses and trains.

The STOMPer said in an email to us today (Apr 23):

"I am in the train now. It's 5.44pm and no one is giving up his seat to this pregnant lady.

"I don't believe that Singaporeans are becoming so unsympathetic."

According to the SKM, S'poreans have moved up the 'Graciousness Index' this year. It was however, reported that S'poreans behave better at home, at school and at work than they do in public places.
