More Chinese nationals working in Indian restaurants in Little India
SINGAPORE: Being served by a China national in Singapore's Little India restaurants is becoming more common.
Indian restaurant owners said they are a good source of labour and value for money. But there has been criticism over their lack of knowledge when it comes to English.
Some have been wondering why Indian restaurants cannot hire workers from India.
The Manpower Ministry said the service sector in Singapore can only hire workers from certain territories. These are Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau, South Korea, Taiwan and China.
India is not one of the approved territories.
Restaurant owners in Little India said they are mostly satisfied with workers from China. But they added it would be better if they have some basic language training before starting work here. - CNA
