Singarayar Cleetruse Geethan, 32, had little sleep the night before June 20 last year and hit a family when his car mounted the road kerb.

The grandmother, Madam Gwee Ham Siau, 64, died from her injuries while her daughter-in-law and seven-year-old grandson suffered fractures. It is not clear what injuries her other grandson, 5, sustained.

In mitigation, Geethan's lawyer Louis Joseph said his client "did not realise he was tired".

When passing sentence, the judge said a deterrent one was necessary so motorists do not drive or ride when unfit to do so.

Geethan, who pleaded guilty to causing death by negligence and for causing hurt, was sentenced to four weeks' jail and disqualified from driving for five years.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Friday (May 10).

Who would be so dumb as to mitigate by saying he has not enough sleep? Sure die one, think the judge gives a flying fuck?
Anyway, he deserves to go to jail.

4 weeks jail time and ban from driving for 5 years for killing a life? Sinkee life is CHEAP.

He should be given a longer jail sentence - at least 10 years and ban for driving for life. If you are responsible for killing a person on the road, you do not deserve a second chance. And he should be made to pay the family at least $1 million.

Why nobody is blaming his employers for asking the engineer to work until wee hours of the morning and come back to office at 7 am in the morning?

I know he caused much death and injuries but this is an accident.

There is no evil intent to maimed and injure them. Four weeks and disqualification is good enough punishment.

Tragic. You will never know when will the next car or trucks or bus come at you.

Every time such accidents happens, we could only say Lan Lan!
