If I may cite the Russia's experience in Afghanistan and US's experience in Iraq, China gains nothing by getting into a conflict with either Korea, Taiwan or Japan.

By the same token, China will attack Taiwan. Whatever belongs to Taiwan will belong to China once invaded.
