MR ANDREW YEO: 'While I hail the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) move to protect foreign workers ('More safeguards for foreign workers', last Saturday), how about the Government providing some measures to protect employers against rogue employees who blatantly breach their contracts and disappear from the country? A case in point is one of my editors, who graduated from a very good university in the region and is from a good family background. However, she decided to up and go without so much as serving her three-month notice and fulfilling her other legal obligations to our company, Retail Asia Publishing. We reported her disappearance to the police and sought advice from MOM as well as her embassy here. No one, including the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, would tell us whether she was still in Singapore until I met MOM officials last week to explain that she owed the company money and not the other way around.
