Employer jailed for hitting maid with half-filled water flask

A woman was sentenced to two weeks' jail and ordered to pay $1,800 as compensation to an Indonesian domestic helper for maid abuse.
Jeanie Lau Lay Wee, 31, who is in the administrative line, admitted to hitting the left eye region of Ms Eki Susanti, 23, with a half-filled water flask and throwing the flask at her, which hit her head.
The court heard that the maid was cleaning the floor on April 13 this year when Lau became angry with her for washing a soiled cloth in the washing basin of the common toilet. She scolded her and went into her bedroom.
About an hour later, Lau went into the living room with the half-filled plastic flask.
