An estimated 250 million children around the world cannot read, write, or demonstrate basic arithmetic skills. UNESCO estimates that the world will need 1.6 million more teachers globally, a number set to double by 2030. Enter Elon Musk.

Musk is famous for being the face of such organizations as Tesla and SpaceX. He is also the co-chairman of the AI research company OpenAIand the CEO of neurotechnology company Neuralink, among other companies that he is involved with. More recently, he provided $15 million to the Global Learning XPRIZE. The goal is to develop methods to teach the 250 million children who do not have access to primary or secondary education the means to teach themselves to read, write, and do math within 15 months.

Isn’t it a fantastic idea for children to self learn self teach - no need teacher?

i think he should donate to charity and build more schools and universities instead......self teach......we know most human beings are too stupid to self teach and learn on their own.....just look at the percentage of the population that loves reading and started reading from a young age without much adult interference,li ka shing loves to read when he was young and sought to learn everything he could, look at where he is now and his giant alien forehead, compared to our hordes of pioneer generations and baby boomers post 1950s,vast majority whom are uneducated illiterate coolies and farmers and dumb as rocks.

u know most human beings have to be forced to go to school and forced through a formal education for ten years and have an adult human being drone on and on and pump their heads full of information otherwise they are just going to grow up and go out into society dumb as rocks,if u dont force them to learn, they will learn nothing.

oh by the way, self teach has already existed for a long long time dating way back to ancient history, its called libraries......even if u lived in a civilisation without formal education u could probably self teach if u went to the library or looked for a bunch of wise men who most likely self taught themselves from sciptures or the library too.

This idea is fantastic for children displaced by war or living in too remote or too poor area with no schools, giving these children an opportunity to self teach and self learn without schools. That day I watched one documentary said Syria children got one million displaced by war not able to attend schools.

Ya but the project using new technology would come up with interesting new way to make self teaching and learning a breeze for these children. Just like last time when I was in my 30s I tried learning piano without a teacher as I didn’t want to pay for expensive piano lessons and i found it difficult to learn and stopped after a while. But now I use the app it’s so easy to learn piano as it’s like a teacher that can tell you whether you play the correct note or not. Same for learning foreign languages, last time so difficult using tapes and books but now using apps like Duolingo it’s so easy and intuitive way of learning.

Elon Musk is funding a project to help children in Tanzania read and write.
He's putting forward $15 million for the project, called the Global Learning XPrize, which wants to revolutionise the teaching of reading, writing and arithmetic for the 260 million children on the planet who do not have access to primary or secondary education.
They are addressing that with 150 villages in Tanzania, where 8,000 children will be given Pixel C tablets by Google. The software, designed by a variety of teams for the XPrize competition, attempts to help children aged seven to ten learn without more formal education.

The competition has been whittled down to 11 teams so far, from 198 entrants in 2014.
In September, five finalists will be chosen from a shortlist of open source projects, and each finalist will be awarded $1 million.
They will then be tested in Tanzania.
Whichever team, over 18 months of testing, sees the most marked improvement in their children compared to the control group will win $10 million.
Xprize has selected children for testing that live very far from a school, making an education unattainable for them - and they will all be largely illiterate prior to testing.

Even when people are educated they're still fucking dumb so what's the point?

Hopefully education will make people kinder and nicer. But it’s a long shot looking at mudland thieves slanderers and harassers. Educated barbarians!
