NEWS RELEASE
ELECTRICITY TARIFF REVISION FOR THE PERIOD 1 JULY TO 30 SEPTEMBER2009
For the quarter 1 Jul 09 to 30 Sep 09, the electricity tariff for households will increase by 6.93% or 1.25 cents (S$0.0125) per kWh to 19.28 cents (S$0.1928) per kWh. On average, taking into account the tariffs for all customer categories, the tariff increase is 7.15%.
The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with changes in the cost of electricity. The tariff increase in the coming quarter is due largely to higher fuel oil prices.
In particular, the average fuel oil price over the last three months has
increased to S$76.24 per barrel, significantly higher than the S$60.47 per barrel fuel oil price used in setting the tariff previously.
This tariff revision has been mitigated by a reduction in the Market Support Services (MSS) Fee 1 from the existing rate of 0.28 cents per kWh to 0.22 cents per kWh. The reduction is due to productivity improvements and cost reductions by SP Services.
The tariff adjustments have been approved by the industry regulator, the Energy
Market Authority.
