Educated loanshark sends 'well-written' warning
Lianhe Wanbao
Some residents in Hougang are somewhat amused to receive a letter written in standard English from what seems like a well-educated loanshark.
The residents staying on one floor of Blk 242, Hougang Street 22, had received the warning letter on 26 Feb.
Apparently, one of the households there had borrowed $1,000 from an overseas moneylender, and had failed to repay his loan.
The loanshark is threatening to take action to harass the debtor's neighbours, but has been "kind" enough to first issue a warning letter.
In the 500-word letter, the loanshark explained the situation to residents and identified himself as representing an "overseas moneylending organisation".
The loanshark claimed to have "a great number of runners in Singapore" and had given the residents three days to "call him for a settlement before things get ugly".
He also stated that the letter was the residents' "first and final warning" before their "front doors get smeared with paint" or their "precious homes set ablazed".
The letter, rather well-written, especially since it came from a loanshark, also came with three hell notes.
The residents have since called the police to handle the matter.
