METRO VANCOUVER - A small earthquake shook Langley on Saturday night.
According to the Natural Resources Canada's Earthquakes Canada section, the 2.1-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:23 p.m. local time. The quake hit approximately 4 km NNW of Langley, it said.
Sgt. Tom James, watch commander of the Langley RCMP, said it received a number of reports from residents in the Walnut Grove area, near 210 Street and 92 Avenue.
James said residents recalled hearing a “large bang” when the quake struck. “Some people thought that a vehicle had hit the house.”
An RCMP helicopter was dispatched to the area, he said, as Natural Resources Canada was unable to confirm initially that an earthquake had occurred.
There are no reports of damages or injuries, James said.
Several minor tremors have been felt in the same area this year, most between the Jan. 25 and 29. None of those registered higher than 1.5 magnitudes.
A 4.5-magnitude earthquake rattled Seattle on January 30. The tremors from that quake were felt all the way up to Victoria and suburbs of Vancouver.
