Duo arrested for island-wide break-ins at private estates
Police seized various items including four mobile phones, five iPads and seven laptops from two men believed to be responsible for a recent spate of break-ins at private residential estates.

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two men, aged 31 and 32, in connection with a spate of break-ins at private residential estates over the past two weeks.
The suspects are believed to have gained entry into the units at night by scaling over the boundary wall, climbing in through unsecured kitchen or toilet windows and forcing sliding doors open. They would then search for valuable items lying around in the units while the occupants were asleep.
Cash, jewellery and other valuables were reported missing.
The suspects initially remained elusive, but they were finally caught in Geylang and along Bukit Timah Road on Oct 11 at about 3.30am.
Police seized various items including four mobile phones, five iPads, seven laptops and over $4,500 in cash from the men.
They will be charged in court on Oct 12 and face up to 14 years in jail if convicted.
House owners are advised to to adopt the following preventive measures against burglary:
- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well-secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks
- Secure all doors and windows before retiring to bed or when leaving the house unattended, even for a short while
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into the house and ensure that these are activated. They should also be tested periodically to ensure a good working condition
- Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe at home or in a safe deposit box
- If going away for a prolonged period, suspend the newspaper subscription and arrange for someone to clear mails and check on the house regularly.
