Is anybody here like me, really sick of reading about drunk drivers who hurt or kill people and get fairly light sentences?
I'm getting tired of reading about these young drunk punks who drive and kill people and get perhaps a few months in jail and their license suspended for 1 year. This should be the minimum sentence if they injure someone, including bearing all their medical costs.
If they kill someone, it should be a minimum 5 year jail term and a suspension of the license for life.
Some people in this forum have said that the sentences are light because the offences were committed by members of the "elite".
I have a different view, the "it could happen to you (or me)" theory.
The sentences are light because the elite know it could happen to any of them. They are not going to deal drugs or murder anyone, hence the sentences for such crimes are heavy. But drunk driving? It could happen to them.
It's about time that they realize that whether you drunk drive and kill someone, or you murder someone, one person dies. And the likelihood that the offence is repeated is not that different in both cases.
