Drug syndicate and robbery gang crippled

TEMERLOH - Police crippled a notorious drug syndicate here with the arrest of three members, including a 24-year-old woman, and seizure of drugs worth RM35,000 (S$14,000) and an assortment of dangerous weapons.
The gang was also believed to be responsible for a spate of armed robberies in the country.
OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh said an operation codenamed Ops Noda led by Asst Supt Sharudin Abdul Wahab stormed a room at a budget hotel in Jalan Tan Sri Yahya here just after midnight on Sunday and nabbed the three suspects.
"The two men, aged 47 and 32, and the woman tested positive for morphine and methamphetamines.
"We seized 38 pieces of fake RM100 notes, ganja leaves and heroin concealed in a box.
"We also recovered syabu weighing 5.14gm, two knives, RM1,937 in cash, three cellphones and other personal belongings including credit cards and a bank account passbook," he told a press conference here.
ACP Abdul Aziz said upon questioning, the gang leader led police to a Honda Prelude car parked at the back of the hotel where they found 18 packets of heroin of various grades.
"We also seized a samurai sword, two parang, a meat cleaver and an axe hidden under the back passenger seat.
"Background checks showed the two men had a total of eight previous records including drug-related offences and an armed robbery in Bukit Mertajam," he said.
In ALOR GAJAH, Malacca, police said they had solved at least six house break-in cases with the arrest of six men suspected to be members of a gang.
Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Umar Ali Saifuddin Shaharudin said the suspects, aged between 16 and 56, were arrested at several locations in Masjid Tanah and Lubok China between Jan 11 and last Thursday.
"Initial investigations revealed that the suspects broke into kampung houses around Masjid Tanah at night.
"A 33-year-old man believed to be the mastermind of the gang was arrested and he led us to his accomplices," he said yesterday.
Police also recovered some of the loot, including an air cooler, a foot massager, driller, stand fan, cutter, grinder, welding set, lawn mower and seven mobile phones.
He said that the 16-year-old suspect was a student who moonlighted as a rubber tapper.
