Some residents in Ang Mo Kio are complaining that drug addicts have invaded their estate in Avenue 5 and 10.

Some, they say, are even brazenly knocking on their doors to ask for money, presumably to buy drugs.

According to them, the alleged addicts are often seen hanging out at a coffeeshop in Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 in the evenings to wait for their drug dealer.

"They usually sit at the corner in a group," said a 32 year-old housewife, known as Madam Hong. "Many residents are aware of this, but nobody dares to do anything to stop them."

Another housewife, 53-year-old Mdm Lee, said she has been harassed numerous times.

The alleged junkies have also come up with tall tales to get solicit funds.

"One woman knocked on my door and said her child was sick. She asked me to lend her $20 so she can bring her child to the doctor," said Mdm Lee.

The woman even promised to repay the loan the following day. But Mdm Lee rejected the her after noticing that she had been in the companies of other alleged addicts before.

Sometimes, nudge come to shove. The junkies may sometimes pretend to be loansharks to extort money, residents said.

A 17-year-old student known only as Miss Neo recalled an incident when she was in the lift with one of these drug addicts.

According to her, one of the alleged junkies stood beside her without pressing the lift.

The man was shivering, Miss Neo said. His body swayed side to side and he was murmuring to himself. "It was so frightening," Miss Neo recalled.

In an operation in February this year, police arrested five people for possession of drugs at the coffeeshop at Ang Mo Kio Ave 10. During the raid, six packets of white pills were found behind a religious altar.

Four men and one woman aged 22 to 46 are among those arrested.

Not tryin to point a finger at a particular race here.. But there used to be the same problems besieging a 24 hr kopitiam near to my parents Tampines home few years back..

Subutex and Heroin junkies would congregate at that Kopitiam from 3 pm right up till the early mornings..They can be seen sitting at the kopitiam in a daze, would order a glass of Kopi O or even a glass of plain ice water and would just sit there the whole day.. Some of these Minahs even brought their young kids along to sit there with their junkie Mat Boyfriends.. These scumbags are the really low lives bringin their young kids along to sit together with their gang.. They would leave their kids at the kopitiam and will make their way into the toilet to have their heroin fix.. At times you can see used syringes in the drains and in the Kopitiam toilets..
