Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Monday that Predator drone aircraft will begin to patrol south Texas’ border with Mexico on Sept. 1.
The deployment of the unmanned aircraft, which will fly out of Corpus Christi, Tex., will extend aerial surveillance to cover the border “from the El Centro Sector in California all the way to the Gulf of Mexico,” and provide “critical aerial surveillance assistance to personnel on the ground,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.
Two Predators already patrol other parts of the border, AFP reported.
