A service technician was fined $8,000 and banned from driving for five years on Tuesday for causing a fatal accident in Bukit Batok.
Kamis Johari, 54, pleaded guilty to causing the death of technician Saravanan Raja, 30, who was riding a motorcycle, by doing a negligent act at the signalised T-junction of Bukit Batok Road by Bukit Batok West Avenue 7 on July 4 last year.
He was driving a van when he failed to keep a proper lookout while making a right turn from Bukit Batok Road into Bukit Batok West Avenue 7, thus hitting the rider.
A second charge of causing grievous hurt to the pillion, Ms Sumathi Rajamani, 29, Mr Saravanan's cousin, was taken into consideration.
