Driver crashes HK$4.8m red Ferrari into hillside in Hong Kong’s Mid-Levels ‘swerving to avoid an animal’

The driver of a HK$4.8 million Ferrari escaped serious injury when his car careered out of control and crashed into a hillside in the Mid-Levels in the early hours of today as he swerved to avoid an animal.
The Ferrari 458 Spider, driven by its owner Lee Chung, 41, was travelling along Bowen Road towards Western district when the crash happened at about 1.15am.
“Police were told that the driver veered left to avoid hitting an animal and the car then crashed into hillside,” a police spokesman said.
The spokesman did not say which kind of animal the driver swerved to avoid. He said the car suffered damage to its front and its driver escaped injury.
According to police, the driver passed a breathalyser test and no one was arrested. Officers from Hong Kong Island traffic unit are investigating.
The Italian sports car was bought by Lee for HK$4.8 million in April 2013, according to car registration records.
Earlier this month, local music producer and arranger Johnny Yim Lai-hang was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a collision between his HK$2.93-million Ferrari F430 F1 and a taxi outside Happy Valley racecourse on October 5.
Yim has won a string of awards, including the CASH Song Writing Quest in 2004, the Jade Solid Gold “Best Arranger” in 2009 and the 37th RTHK Music Awards “Best Composition”.
