What in the world is "a brain in the drain"?
Is that what he considers a "wise answer"?
This is as baffling as when WKS said that LTK was trying to leave open a back door, after LTK said that he would resign if his party forced him to accept the NCMP post.
Perhaps he means a drain in the brain......................

Singapore needs to be obsessed with champions: Dr Balakrishnan
By Dylan Loh | Posted: 07 August 2010 1943 hrs

SINGAPORE : Sports Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said a small country like Singapore needs to be obsessed with champions.

Speaking at a youth conference on Saturday, he said a middle-of-the-road approach to top performance will not go far.

The "What Makes a Young Champion?" forum is organised for secondary to tertiary students in celebration of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Its purpose is to develop in today's youth a winning attitude in life.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also weighed in on the winning qualities - even though he was not present.

"It's about outdoing yourself, setting yourself higher goals of performance and achievement, and then exceeding them," said PM Lee.

Although many Singapore champions have gone abroad, Sports Minister Balakrishnan offered a positive view.

He said: "One of my other fellow Cabinet colleagues once told me that there was a country which is very, very talented but was also losing many brains - top talent. And he asked the other politician 'are you worried about the brain drain?'

"The other politician gave a very wise answer. He said: "I would rather have a brain drain than a brain in a drain." Organisers have gathered a diverse group with success stories to inspire the young.

17-year-old Johnny Strange, the youngest person to climb the summits of seven continents said: "No matter what the reason is, or what the goal is... (if) they believe in themselves and they really try passionately - they can accomplish their goals."

The next forum will be held during the 2012 Olympics in London. - CNA /ls

Champions are the MPs who are first to increase
their own pay but not employees !

They can go lick their wounds later .

What he meant was an underperforming individual who has the capacity to perform better.

Like you I am puzzled as it is certainly not a wise answer. It looks silly and stupid. Brain drain is a serious issue. Underperforming individual with brains are rare. Most underperforming individuals are in position which they should not hold in the first place. Basically playing above their station in life.

Viv B is now living in his own world that his statements are becoming more ridiculous and his minders and hangers on are giving him the wrong signal.

Reminds me of Lim Boon Heng who made so many ridiculous statements and kept saying that he was wrongly quoted that they took him out of public life and in PMO to draw his salary.

I am sure the MP's consider them the brain of Singapore.

If I ever see them in my country, I will break their head like a coconut and make sure extract their brain for Singaporeans to see......go fuck off PAP!!!...the blood-suckers.........

To use the words of MM Lee himself, many Singapore champions? How many? Name me a few.

Ram,

Is this guy a champion?

Ho Kwon Ping is the Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, a Singapore based leisure business group, which owns both listed and private companies engaged in the development, ownership and operation of hotels, resorts, spas, residential homes, retail galleries and other lifestyle activities in the region[1].
He was the Singapore Correspondent at the legendary Far Eastern Economic Review, who regularly expressed dissident views. In late 1970s, he was accused of endangering national security and fined $3,000. His views have changed in recent times.[2]
He is married to entrepreneur Claire Chiang.

The legendary Far Eastern Economic Review was lengendarily champion at getting sued by LKY and PAP.

Ho Kwon Ping finally surrendered and attained nirvana according to the gospel of LKY.

There are many things in the PAP drains and I cant be sure they are all brains. Like this VB for instance. How can he think the turn of phrase was so wise?

Many good brains have been caused to drain away by PAP, the way good money is flushed out by bad money.

I daresay many good brains are just waiting....for the day when the regime collapses..to return and reclaim lost glory, lost leibenstraum, lost freedom, lost quality of life...

Anyone with championship ambitions won't plan for a future in a half baked country full of losers.

They'll move on and gain residency somewhere in the real world.

I thought he was talking about severed heads in the drains. Strange reply to a serious question nonetheless.
Previously, they were prone to stating the obvious and making motherhood statements.
But recently, they have started making statements that are bordering on the incomprehensible. It could be the effect of the emperor's new clothes. People around them are smiling and nodding sagely at every single remark made, and they are perhaps starting to believe in the wisdom of their replies.

As for LBH, he probably got himself a lifetime pass based on his "brilliant" idea regarding cpf annuities. He might even get a lifetime achievement award this national day.

Champions?
Father, son, daughter in law, other son, other daughter in law, daughter,...............
Ok, ok, anyone who agrees with father also can be champion.

Brains in the drains or drains in their brains, I don't know the difference these days.

Rather than good brains, it's probably more about agreeable and obliging brains for them.

He's telling all of us humsup sammyboy forummers to take our minds out of the gutter.

You noticed that too. Agree with your reasons as well. I hope we don't infected as well.
