Dr M warns Malays against S'pore fate

MALAYSIA'S former premier, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on Sunday warned his country's majority Malays that they are at risk of suffering the fate of their ethnic cousins in Singapore - who are a minority not protected by the Government, he said.

Tun Dr Mahathir was speaking at a Melayu Bangkit (Malays Arise) rally in Kuala Terengganu, reported news portal Malaysiakini.

He lamented the fact that the Malays had divided their political support between the ruling coalition and opposition parties, calling it a "dangerous precedent" and saying that he did not think Malays could thrive in a pure meritocracy.

"If we don't act rationally, one day we will be like the Malays in Singapore - a people who are truly powerless.
So, they have to bow down to another race," said the former premier.

I read in a thread elsewhere that Mahathir is actually a Hindu name. How come then he claims to champion the Malays? Also he has no bloody right to talk about Singapore Malays. Had they been in Malaysia, would they be enjoying the quality of life they are getting in Singapore? Mahathir should be charged under the Sedition Act for inciting racial unrest.

Had they been in Malaysia, would they be enjoying the quality of life they are getting in Singapore? Mahathir should be charged under the Sedition Act for inciting racial unrest.

Mahathir was born in Alor Setar, Kedah, the youngest of nine children[6] of a schoolteacher and a housewife. His father, Mohamad Iskandar, was of Indian descent, being the son of a Malayalee Muslim (who migrated from Kerala) and a Malay mother, while Mahathir's own mother, Wan Tampawan, was Malay.[7]

So he is technically half indian, a Mamak so to speak. Interesting enough, Kedah, used to be ruled by an Indian prince. I suppose when the chinese migrated down from yunan, the mixing of the blood formed the malay. So there are no true malay race to begin with.

More than one century ago, Malays (Bumi) were the indigenous people of the land. Then the (British) government allowed a mass influx of foreign workers from China and India into the land. Slowly over the years the Malays were sidelined and displaced in society and job market by these "cheaper better faster" foreign workers (FTs). The Malaysian government tried to counter this trend with its pro Bumi policies.

Now in 21st century Singapore, it is precise history repeating all over again to a brand new generation of "indigenous" Singaporeans.

I think the MALAYS in Singapore will be the last be "mistreated". Our Nation Anthem in "Bahasa Malay", our army command in "Bahasa Malay", our national language "Bahasa Malay"...

Free Education for their offspring which sees their race pumping out babies in dozens. Most big 7-8 seaters MPV I saw on the road with red plates belong to a Malay family as a car in their community is more of a collective ownership over individual pleasure.

All these are said not in sore-resentment against the Malays BUT I sincerely feel that they have been equally if not more, treated by other races.

I believe, not long our own beloved Malays will stand up and speak against Dr M demanding him for an apology.

I personally think that's the difference between Times Berhad (which publishes the The Straits Times in Malaysia and the 154th (which is PAP beholden).

What I'm trying to say is that, the 154th who is beholden to the PAP will never publish anything adverse (from ex-politicians)to their master's voice. Just an example, when Devan Nair (ex-President of Singapore) was alive, he used to voice his opinions about PAP policies and many of his writings were not even reported in in 154th.

Mahathir has some Indian blood. That's why he being a medical doctor thinks he is superior and kept on harping that the Malays (M'sian) are stupid - don't like to study, don't know how to make money or make money through bumiputra policy such as FELDA scheme and then don't know how to keep it. They therefore need another 100 years of bumiputra discrimination policy for Malays to evolve and catchup with the Chinese and Indians.

That's one main reason why many Chinese and Indian felt frustrated and have emigrated to other countries bringing their brains with them. Now M'sian gahment says they dont have money to give scholarship - because most scholarships should be given to Indians and Chinese because they are the talented ones. Its an embarrassment that no Malays deserve the scholarship because they score poorly in national examinations.

Another reason is that the Chinese and Indians are powerless and are treated like second class - some are not even given citizenship. Mahathir is actually equating the Sporean Malays with M'sian Chinese - that's how he treated them when he was PM.

Because of his anti-semitic thinking - and by extension anti-Chinese and ant-Indian - he feels threatened by Anwar - who has some Indian blood as well and his wife Wan Azizah who has some Chinese blood. For all his thinking, he won't be put in jail because of the Malay culture respect for authority or the elderly. If he was a lesser person - like himself in the past or Anwar - he would be put in jail long ago.

Different lah. Spore gahment crushed oppositions - regardless of race, language or religion. M'sian gahment crushed oppositions and all non-Malays - especially different race, language or religion. Mahathir is not ashamed of it and keep on harping it. He still wants to demolish the causeway and build a crooked bridge named after him. It should be named the Mahathir crooked bridged alright ! He should concentrate on his dream of building a bridge linking Sumatra with Malaya.
