People are funny. In 1966 US bonfired Beatles record for John Lennon claiming to be more popular than Jesus. In 1969 they banned Beatles song The Ballad Of John & Yoko because the word Christ is in the lyrics.
Beatles went on to sell more records than any others in history. The Ballad Of John & Yoko was certified gold million-seller within a week of release.
Singapore banned Olivia Newton-John song Physical (1981) Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) and Prince album Purple Rain (1984) in full versions, only censored and edited versions allowed.
Phyiscal was 10 weeks top of the charts, Sgt. Pepper 15 weeks and Purple Rain 24 weeks. Later, government quietly lifted the ban.
