MS BETTY HO: 'I often read of philanthropists donating to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, the NUS Business School, and many other local institutions. It's heartening that so many people are willing to contribute to the education of future generations. However, not all the beneficiaries are Singaporeans. For instance, the recent donation by tycoon Oei Hong Leong to the LKY School will go into 'an endowment fund where income generated will pay for scholarships for students from China'. I hope to see such donations being made to local institutions like the Autism Resource Centre (Singapore), Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, Red Cross Home for the Disabled or Down Syndrome Association (Singapore). These are also Singaporeans who genuinely need our help.'
