Trump beats Julius Caesar in speaking and winning the hearts of the audience! I just watched live the address at the White House just given by Trump. Trump is great! Everything he said will go down perfect with the American public.

The only information about the Iranian missile attacks is that there is no loss of life - neither US nor Iraqi. Also minimal damage to the bases' facilities. All's well. There is no mention of any follow up action. That ended his speech.

Trump tweets predicting Obama would start a war with Iran to get reelected are coming back to haunt him

Tweets from back in 2011 and 2012 in which Donald Trump predicted that President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran to secure his reelection have gone viral after the US assassinated a top Iranian general, dramatically escalating its confrontation with Iran.

Trump personally ordered the killing by airstrike of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who is believed to have died in the early hours of Friday near an airport in Baghdad.

The Pentagon said Soleimani, who led the Quds Force and was one of the most powerful men in the Middle East, “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”

Trump’s only statement was to tweet a picture of the US flag.

Despite Trump’s evident pride at the attack, many on social media seized on his previous posts where, with Obama in the White House, Trump had condemned the idea of military action against Iran as foolish electioneering.

Trump, then best known as a reality-TV star and real-estate developer, hammered home the point in a 2011 video filmed in his Trump Tower office.

Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate. He's weak and he's ineffective. So the only way he figures that he's going to get reelected — and as sure as you're sitting there — is to start a war with Iran.

There has been expert speculation that the Iranians "calibrated" their strikes not to cause casualties in human life. It is not so. When Khamenei talk about "a slap in the face of America", it is a hint that he expected not much from their missile strikes. I expected not much damage too even before Trump's address.

Common sense demands that the military bases in the ME are prepared for missile attacks from Iran. They have underground bunkers. The US satellites systems covers the whole world 24/7 all the time. Any ballastic missiles launch would never escape the US detection. The two Iraqi bases would definitely have received advanced warning and the personnel would take shelters underground. That's the real reason no loss of life, not because the Iranians deliberately aiming off target.

There is a difference in significance between the assassination of Soleimani and the Iranian missile strikes. The assassination of Soleimani is not a direct attack on Iran as a sovereign nation. If the assassination had been within Iran itself, then it could be taken as an attack on Iran - in order words, an indirect declaration of war! It is for this reason that there never was any direct US attack on Iran itself. On the other hand, Iran's missile strikes against the two Iraqi bases are direct attack on the United States of America. The strikes were done openly on US military bases and come from within Iran. It is up to the US to decide if it wants a full fledged US-Iran war or to avoid one.

There is no guarantee that the US-Iran conflict has deescalated. The US now has to find a "legitimate" excuse how not to leave Iraq. Using just half a brain, anyone can see that there is no light at the end of the tunnel in this conflict between the West and the Muslim world. It is the reality of this world.

As Mao Zedong said "Power comes from the barrel of a gun". I think there is nothing much Ali Khamenei could do - only Russia or China could fight a war with the US and the West. As my other post shows, ballistic missiles are not effective against the US bases in Iraq. Khamenei could have chosen other options of retaliation; e.g. a full scale attack to destroy the Saudi oil facilities, but this would have been greatly un-Islamic; the US attack us and we attack his vulnerable friend - that would be the mother of all shame on the Persians! Their ancestors would be jumping up and down in the other realm.
