US President Donald Trump has said he and the US first lady are in quarantine after one of his closest aides tested positive for coronavirus.
He tweeted that both he and Melania Trump were now awaiting their own test results after Hope Hicks was infected.
The 31-year-old adviser to the president is the closest aide to Mr Trump to test positive so far.
She travelled with him on Air Force One to a TV debate in Ohio earlier this week.
Ms Hicks was pictured getting off the presidential jet on Tuesday in Cleveland without a mask.
She was in even closer proximity to him aboard the presidential helicopter Marine One on Wednesday when the president held a rally in Minnesota.

Mr Trump tweeted on Thursday night: "Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible!
"The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!"
It is not clear how the quarantine will affect arrangements for the second presidential debate, which is scheduled for 15 October in Miami, Florida.
During a phone call with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night, Mr Trump said he and Mrs Trump "spend a lot of time with Hope".
"So we'll see what happens," said the president, adding that Ms Hicks often wore masks but still tested positive.
The disease has infected more than 7.2 million Americans, killing over 200,000 of them.
The White House tests aides and anyone else who comes into contact with the president daily.
Mr Trump mostly spurns mask-wearing and is often pictured not socially distanced with aides or others during official engagements.
According to Bloomberg News, Ms Hicks is experiencing symptoms of the disease, and was quarantined on Air Force One on the trip back from Minnesota.
Ms Hicks is the latest White House aide to contract Covid-19. Vice-President Mike Pence's press secretary Katie Miller tested positive in May and recovered.
That same month, a member of the US Navy who was serving as one of Mr Trump's personal valets tested positive for coronavirus.
But the White House said neither the president nor vice-president were affected.
National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, a number of Secret Service agents, a Marine One pilot and a White House cafeteria worker have also tested positive.
Ms Hicks was a campaign spokeswoman during Mr Trump's candidacy before becoming communications director in his White House.
She stepped down in March 2018 to become chief communications officer at Rupert Murdoch's Fox, before returning to the White House in February.

after Hope Hicks -fucked up name, one of his closest aides, tested positive for Covid-19.

But are they sick?

US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have both tested positive for the coronavirus.

Mr Trump announced the news on Twitter, saying he and the First Lady would begin their quarantine and recovery process immediately.

“We will get through this together,” he said.

The couple went into quarantine and got tested today after one of the President’s closest advisers, Hope Hicks, contracted the infection.

Ms Hicks, a former White House communications director who returned to the administration as a counsellor to Mr Trump earlier this year, travelled to and from this week’s presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio with him.

She was also aboard the President’s helicopter, Marine One, for a trip to Joint Base Andrews yesterday. And she was aboard Air Force One for Mr Trump’s visit to Minnesota, where he held a political rally.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity after his test, but before the result was known, Mr Trump was in a fairly positive mood.

“I just went for a test, and we’ll see what happens. I mean, who knows?” he said.

“We spend a lot of time with Hope.

“But you know Hope very well. She’s fantastic, and she’s done a great job.”

The positive test result will drastically change the presidential election campaign, with the President presumably quarantining for 14 days.

The second debate against Joe Biden is scheduled for October 15, which is 13 days away.

In a statement earlier today, White House spokesman Judd Deere said the President “takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works in support of him and the American people very seriously”.

“White House Operations collaborates with the Physician to the President and the White House Military Office to ensure all plans and procedures incorporate current CDC guidance and best practices for limiting COVID-19 exposure to the greatest extent possible both on complex and when the President is travelling,” Mr Deere said.

Mr Trump said that it was difficult for him and those close to him to avoid the virus since so many others, including members of the military, try to interact with them.

“It’s very hard when you’re with soldiers, when you are with airmen, when you’re with the Marines, and the police officers, I’m with them so much. And when they come over to you, it’s hard to say, ‘stay back, stay back.’ You know, it’s a tough kind of a situation, it’s a terrible thing,” he said.

“I just went for a test, and we’ll see what happens. I mean, who knows ... I was surprised to hear with Hope, but she’s a very warm person with them.”

HICKS HAD BEEN IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH TRUMP

Bloomberg News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs, who was first to report that Ms Hicks had contracted the virus, said the senior aide was experiencing symptoms, and had been in close proximity to Mr Trump without a mask in recent days.

Ms Hicks is one of Mr Trump’s longest-serving and most trusted political advisers.

She first met the President in 2014, while employed by a public relations company that was representing his daughter Ivanka’s fashion line.

She went on to become his White House communications director – replacing the controversial Anthony Scaramucci – until 2018, when she moved to California to become an executive at Fox Corporation.

“There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump,” she said in a statement at the time of her departure.

“I wish the President and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country.”

“She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person,” Mr Trump said.

“I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood. I am sure we will work together again in the future.”

That statement proved prescient. In February, shortly after the end of his impeachment trial, Mr Trump rehired Ms Hicks to serve as an adviser.

Over the years, she has developed a reputation for knowing and understanding him better than most advisers.

Ms Hicks, the youngest communications director in history, became known as something of a Trump “whisperer” during her first stint in the White House.

As the rest of Mr Trump’s staff often crumbled around her, with chiefs of staff and press secretaries quickly flaming out, she was the one constant, always by the President’s side.

“My father makes people earn his trust. She’s earned his trust,” Ivanka Trump once said.

Ivanka poached her from the aforementioned PR company in 2014. By January of 2015, a short time after she joined the Trump Organisation, Mr Trump himself recruited her for his presidential campaign.

“Her most important role is her bond with the candidate. She totally understands him,” campaign chairman Paul Manafort later told The New York Times.

WASHINGTON (BLOOMBERG, NYTIMES) - US President Donald Trump said in a tweet early on Friday (Oct 2) that he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for Covid-19.

The president said they will begin "quarantine and recovery process immediately".
The president was tested after Ms Hope Hicks, one of his closest aides, also tested positive. Ms Hicks travelled with Trump aboard Air Force One to and from the presidential debate in Cleveland on Tuesday.

The latest development throws the United States' leadership into uncertainty, escalating the crisis posed by a pandemic that has already killed more than 207,000 Americans and devastated the economy.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter. “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

(CNN)President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus, the President announced early Friday morning.
"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!" Trump tweeted shortly before 1 am Friday.
The President had said earlier in the night that he planned to quarantine.
"Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!" Trump tweeted Thursday night.
Hicks has traveled with the President multiple times recently, including to the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday, and was seen boarding Marine One, along with several other of the President's closest aides -- Jared Kushner, Dan Scavino and Nicholas Luna -- none of whom wore masks, on Wednesday as Trump was heading to a campaign rally in Minnesota.
"She did test positive, I just heard about this. She tested positive. She's a hard worker. Lot of masks, she wears masks a lot but she tested positive. Then I just went out with a test. I'll see -- you know, because we spent a lot of time -- and the first lady just went out with a test also. So whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don't know," Trump said during a call-in appearance on Fox News' "Hannity."
He added, "I just went for a test and we'll see what happens, I mean, who knows. ... I spent a lot of time with Hope and so does the first lady, and she's tremendous."
While it's unclear what the President's "quarantine process" will look like, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines state that a 14-day quarantine should take place after the last known exposure to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. This is because the incubation period for the novel coronavirus can be up to two weeks.
News of Hicks' positive test comes amid continued efforts by the Trump administration to blatantly disregard science and best public health practices during the pandemic, with West Wing staff actively eschewing masks and the President defying recommendations from his own coronavirus task force, proceeding with a busy schedule of packed campaign ralies. Trump and his key aides have shown little interest in changing practices of his staff to meet the needs of the moment.
Trump, in his Fox News interview, speculated that Hicks could have contracted the virus from an interaction with a supporter.
"She's a very warm person. She has a hard time, when soldiers and law enforcement comes up to her, you know, she wants to treat them great, not say, 'Stay away, I can't get near you.' It's a very, very tough disease," he said.
A source close to Hicks told CNN that she is experiencing symptoms and is back in Washington. A source familiar with Hicks' symptoms describes her as being achy and feeling pretty bad. CNN has reached out to Hicks for comment.
"The President takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works in support of him and the American people very seriously," White House spokesman Judd Deere told CNN in a statement when asked about the level of contact between Hicks and Trump.
The White House made no mention of Hicks by name, nor did it confirm she had tested positive.
"White House Operations collaborates with the Physician to the President and the White House Military Office to ensure all plans and procedures incorporate current CDC guidance and best practices for limiting COVID-19 exposure to the greatest extent possible both on complex and when the President is traveling," Deere added.
Some White House staffers who were in close proximity were notified of the positive test result today, one official said.
This development was first reported by Bloomberg News.

Long seen as a stabilizing force on a boss who likes chaos, Hicks joined the Trump Organization working in public relations with Ivanka Trump and moved to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign early in the race. She was one of the few aides to follow him from his political beginnings to the White House.
Hicks maintained a close relationship not just with the President but also with members of his family, including White House advisers Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner. She previously served as the White House communications director.
Hicks' positive test underscores the unique challenge White House staffers face as they try to keep the pandemic out of the West Wing while the President pushes to reopen the country.
In May, two White House staffers, including a member of the Navy who serves as one of Trump's personal valets, tested positive for the virus, and in July a cafeteria employee on the White House grounds tested positive as well. The President confirmed a fourth positive case on White House grounds last month.

Trump has previously expressed concern that aides contracting coronavirus would undercut his message that the outbreak is waning and states should accelerate reopening, according to a person who had spoken with him.
The White House has since gone to great lengths to shield Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the outbreak, even as they travel to states where cases are surging.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany previously described Trump as the "most tested man in America," who doesn't risk spreading the virus to others. But Trump contradicted that claim hours later, saying he doesn't know of a time he's taken more than one coronavirus test in a day.
"I don't know about more than one," Trump responded to a reporter who asked why he was tested more than once a day. "I do probably on average a test every two days, three days, and I don't know of any time I've taken two in one day, but I could see that happening."
This story has been updated with additional developments on Thursday night and Friday morning.
CNN's Paul LeBlanc contributed to this report.

I wish them a speedy recovery.

If he shows only mild symptoms and continues with his work etc. N it affects him like a flu. He will be proven right and it will justify that the lockdowns etc are BS. This could be a blessing in disguise. He is at the vulnerable age group.
