Dodol maker killed after falling into mixing machine
TUMPAT: A 62-year-old dodol maker was killed when she fell into an electronic mixing machine at Kampung Laut here yesterday. The victim, Wan Zainab Wan Ali, had her body scalded and her right hand crushed. She died on the way to the hospital here.
In the 5pm incident, Wan Zainab was believed to have fallen into the machine when her wooden ladle got caught in the dodol mixer. Her nephew, Nik Roslan Nik Hussin, 41, said he tried to rescue Wan Zainab after hearing her screaming for help.
“The only thing I could do was to switch off the machine but it was too late. “I had to get other villagers to help me pull my aunt out of the machine but we could not,” he said.
District Fire and Rescue Department chief Yaakob Abdullah said Wan Zainab was barely conscious when his men brought her out of the machine. Six firemen was involved in the rescue operation.
