NUSAJAYA - Police arrested a suspected paedophile yesterday, who lured young boys to his clinic after buying them the latest smartphones.
Nusajaya police chief Superintendent Nor Hashim Mohd Nor said police arrested the 40-year-old doctor from his clinic located near a playground near here.
He has been running the clinic for the past five years.
The activities were uncovered following an incident on Saturday when the doctor allegedly lured a 12-year-old boy to his clinic after buying him a Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone worth about RM500 from a hypermarket in Nusa Bestari.
He was believed to have fondled the boy's private parts at his clinic.
The doctor also hugged the boy and asked him to remove his pants. However, the youngster refused. The incident came to light when the victim's father became suspicious after seeing his son playing with an expensive new smartphone.
Asked where he got the phone, the boy initially lied and claimed he had found it at the playground.
When pressed for the truth, the boy relented and related to his father what had happened. The boy's father then lodged a police report on Sunday.
Sources said the boy's elder brother, who is a year older than the victim, was with a group of boys playing outside the doctor's clinic along Jalan Indah, in Bukit Indah a few days earlier.
The doctor had made friends with the boys and also bought them smartphones. Upon seeing his brother's smartphone, the victim asked his brother about it. He told him the doctor gave him the phone.
Nor Hashim confirmed the doctor was arrested to facilitate investigations.
