A doctor from Paragon Medical Centre - previously convicted for a string of offences, including publishing misleading advertisements - had his appeal against a one-year suspension dismissed on Monday.
Dr Wong Yoke Meng, 65, had been suspended for carrying out experimental stem cell treatment, not explaining its consequences before getting the patient's consent, and performing a procedure outside his registered specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology.
The Court of Appeal heard that all three offences related to the treatment of Mr Roy Hardy, who was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in May 2006.
There is no known cure for this degenerative disease and Mr Hardy had resorted to various other forms treatments such as acupuncture but to no avail.
