The night sky over Paris lit up on Saturday night for a dazzling fireworks display to mark Bastille Day.
A gigantic mirror ball, hung from the iconic Eiffel Tower, was perhaps a clue to this year’s theme – a light show
set to disco songs of the 70s and 80s.
An estimated half a million people watched the spectacle.
Earlier, France’s new president Francois Hollande joined a traditional military parade in the capital. He then went
on French TV to talk about the country’s economic challenges.
Bastille Day marks the storming of the Bastille prison on 14 July 1789 that helped start the French Revolution.
