Disciplinary teacher assaulted by students
ALOR STAR: A disciplinary teacher ended up with a swollen face and bruises after he was assaulted by 10 Form Five students at a secondary school in Jalan Gunung, here, on Wednesday.
The teacher, in his 40s, was kicked, slapped and punched, when he entered a classroom in the 9am incident.
Sources said he had gone to the classroom on the second floor to check on some students acting disorderly.
Upon entering the classroom, 10 boys pounced on him and began kicking and punching him.
Throughout the incident, the remaining 30-odd students, mostly girls, did not intervene as they feared the 10 boys would turn on them.
The incident, however, drew the attention of several teachers who rushed to their colleague's aid.
The teacher received outpatient treatment for his injuries.
It was learnt that the 10 students had acted in a disorderly manner in retaliation to the disciplinary teacher's action in reprimanding a few of their friends, who had showed up late for the morning school assembly.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Adzaman Mohd Jan confirmed the incident, but declined to elobrate.
State Education Department director Mansor Lat said police had taken statements from the students.
