KUALA LUMPUR - A disabled motorcycle mechanic died in an early morning blaze after the workshop he worked at caught fire.
Mohd Nor Yaakob, 30, from Kelantan, had stayed back at the workshop along Jalan Bangsar to wait out the rain before going home.
Workshop owner Joshua Arokiam Arokiasamy, 30, said he received a call from Mohd Nor at about 2.30am yesterday, saying that the shop was on fire and he could not get out.
"He wanted me to call the fire department to rescue him. When I arrived at the workshop, there were big flames and firemen were trying to put them out," said Joshua.
He added that Mohd Nor, who had started working there about a month ago, was disabled due to an accident when he was a teenager.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail said five fire engines and 23 firefighters managed to control the fire at 3am.
Mohd Nor's remains were recovered some five hours later.
