ALOR SETAR: Kedah Customs Department seized drugs believed to be syabu worth some RM3.9mil at the Shahab Perdana Bus Terminal here.
The drugs in 20 slabs were found in a luggage bag carried by a 43-year-old man who was about to board a bus to Kuala Lumpur.
State Customs director Datuk Abd Aziz Abdul Latif said the seizure was made on Tuesday at 10.30am by the department’s narcotics enforcement team following a public tip-off.
He said the man was believed to have arrived in the country from Thailand the same day.
Abd Aziz said the street value of each of the slabs weighing about 1kg was about RM190,000.
He said the department was investigating if the man was part of a drug smuggling syndicate, adding that the unemployed man was remanded until Aug 27 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
