Debtor-turned runner arrested

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for suspected involvement in loanshark activities. Following up on information received, police officers conducted an operation at Ubi Avenue 4 and arrested the suspect at about 2.20pm. Loanshark-paraphernalia such as ATM cards, bank transaction slips and mobile phones were seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be a debtor-turned-runner who had assisted unlicensed moneylenders both by opening numerous bank accounts and carrying out bank transfers. He will be charged in court on Thursday.
