SINGAPORE: A debtor-turned-loanshark runner was on Friday sentenced to 45 months jail, ordered to be caned 24 strokes, and fined S$30,000.
37-year-old Tan Yew Seh pleaded guilty to 14 counts of harassing debtors on behalf of unlicensed moneylenders between May and July this year.
He would spray green paint on random vehicles and paste the debtors' details on them.
Tan was also convicted on one count of assisting the operations of three loansharks.
43 related charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.
District Judge Soh Tze Bian said this was one of the more serious loanshark cases he had seen. - CNA/nd
