GEORGE TOWN: A fight between two brothers turned tragic when one sibling beat the other to death.
The 17-year-old victim, who had just completed his SPM on Monday, was pummelled to death by his younger brother during a scuffle at their home in the Sungai Ara Ar- my Camp in Bayan Lepas yesterday.
The victim died at the Penang Hospital from head injuries.
According to a police spokesman, the siblings' mother had tried in vain to calm them down during the fight.
She then sought help from her neighbours to rush her eldest son to the hospital, where he died two hours later.
The victim is believed to have suffered from asthma.
It is learnt that the fight started when the victim lunged at his younger brother, 16, and kicked him in the abdomen for teasing their four-year-old sister who had just come home at around 7pm on Saturday night.
In retaliation, the younger brot-her hit him on the head repeat*edly with his fists until the latter collapsed.
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Hatta Zin said the younger brother had been detained.
One of the victim's friends, identified as Shah, said both were students of SMK Raja Tun Uda.
"He was a very quiet and reserved person," he said.
