Dead worker's family heads to court over payout dispute

The family of a construction worker from China who died of heat stroke here in 2009 is seeking court action to clear the way for workman's compensation to be paid out.
Standing in the way of the payout of $93,833 are the insurer, EQ Insurance Corporation, and his former employer, Chin Tong Trading Construction.
The two parties had given notice of their objection to the payout, but although this objection was filed late, the Commissioner for Labour agreed in September to hold a hearing.
The family of the dead man, Mr Tian Wei, then challenged the Commissioner's decision by seeking a High Court order to set aside the decision and to proceed with the payout.
