A dead newborn baby wrapped in a plastic bag was discovered by a cleaner when she emptied a bin in a Chai Wan shopping mall at around 7am on Sunday morning.
Police were notified about half an hour later and the male infant – who still had his umbilical cord attached when found at the ground floor ladies’ room of Paradise Mall in Heng Fa Chuen – was declared dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the cause of death.
Last month, a 28-week-old female foetus with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached wrapped in a recycling bag was found by a cleaner on an empty train at Yau Ma Tei MTR station. The girl was declared dead half an hour later at the Kwong Wah Hospital.
Police arrested on May 11 arrested a 27-year-old Indonesian domestic worker for murdering her own child after identifying the suspect from CCTV footage.
In January, the body of a newborn girl wrapped in a shopping bag, who also had her umbilical cord attached, was found dumped inside a public toilet block in North Point. The baby, who had bruises on her forehead, was certified dead by paramedics who were called to the scene after the discovery.
