"Last words" found on David Widjaja's laptop
by Shaffiq Alkhatib
A search on a laptop computer belonging to the late David Widjaja has uncovered a text document entitled "last words".
This, after Senior Staff Sergeant Joe Ng Suan Teck from the Criminal Investigation Department examined the laptop after David's death in March this year
The officer also conducted checks on David's mobile phone and thumb-drive.
The document found on the laptop began with these ominous words:
"If this e-mail is sent, this means I am no longer in this world".
"Yes, I am committing suicide and I have my reasons".
Giving more details, Senior Staff Sergeant Ng said the document was created on the 25th of January this year.
The writer added that he had had it with his "miserable life" and passed most of it in "sorrow and suffering".
He also highlighted that he had family problems.
His mother, he noted, "controls everything" and still treated him "like a child".
In the document, the writer said, his parents often quarrel and they shout at each other almost every day since he was a child.
He claimed that he used to cry a lot when he was younger, but became stronger after turning 16.
Since then, he added, he didn't weep any more and had "no more tears to shed for other people."
He even doubted that he would cry should his parents pass away.
Even though the document was found on David's laptop, Senior Staff Sergeant Ng was unable to confirm the writer's identity.
That's because, anyone who had access to the computer could create it.
The laptop also contained text fragments from Internet searches on murder and suicide.
This means a user could have visited websites pertaining to these matters
The court heard, Senior Staff Sergeant Ng examined the thumb-drive and uncovered only deleted video files.
They were clips from popular TV series, Prison Break.
He added that David's mobile phone contained more than 300 text messages.
But the CID officer didn't reveal their content in the courtroom.
David was a 21-year-old Electrical and Electronic Engineering student from Nanyang Technological University.
He allegedly stabbed his project work supervisor, Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk on campus before falling to his death.
Hearing continues on Wednesday.
