17 Apr – In spite of her numerous efforts that made Malaysia proud in the film industry, they were overlooked in favour of Michelle Yeoh's recent 'transgression', which came about when she accepted a dinner invitation from a group of Chinese business tycoons and Gabungan Persatuan Keturunan Cina Selangor who are known to be supporters of Malaysia's latest Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Tensions are running high for the country as Najib Razak has just dissolved the parliament starting early April, and all parties are now campaigning for votes for the general election on 5 May 2013.
According to a statement on the unofficial Facebook page called "We Fully Support PKR(DAP)", the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star was "once the Malaysian people's pride but now no longer".
The poster then went on to address the issues of the actress' support of Barisan Nasional (BN) as follows:
Do you know now we have a national debt of RM500 billion? Do you know we might not even have the freedom to pick the colour we want to wear? Do you know now the foreign labourers rule in your homeland? Do you know one risks being robbed on the street every minute? Do you know your homeland is a dangerous place for pretty girls?
Do you know that in your homeland, the 'mata' can frame you for drug trafficking and ask for money? Do you know in your homeland, you cannot sell expensive ice cream to a policeman? Do you understand the message behind the dinner? Or do you think it has nothing to do with you since you live outside Malaysia?
Of course, it is still unknown as to which party Michelle Yeoh will be voting for, but the general Malaysian public are under the impression that she had allegedly chosen to support BN after she accepted said dinner invitation.
At the time of writing, the explicit message already has 6,742 "likes", 5,061 shares and 1,282 comments. It is expected that these numbers will increase a lot more after.
No comment has been made by Michelle Yeoh as yet.
