I think so too! Malaysia is mild compared with Indonesia esp. when Habibie was in charge. he hated Singapore because he felt we didn't get the respect he deserved from LKY. The Federal Constitution does not give states the right to secede. By the same token, it does not give the Federation the right to kick any state out. Therefore, the need for a Separation Agreement and Singapore was smart to insist on the water agreements to be part and parcel of the deal and for the deal to be registered with the UN.

Another way to look at it is the Separation Agreement and by extension the water agreements which were annexed to it is the price that the federal government accepted so that it could have a free hand to implement its “Malaysia for Malays” policies without the huge bloc of highly educated and spirited Chinese voters in SG as a stumbling block. RM0.01 per 1,000 gallons is a fair price to pay for the freedom to implement its pro-bumiputra policies.
