The Dalai Lama and CCP are both devils who love to impose autocracy on tibetans.

If we go by track record, the CCP are lesser devils in tibet despite their track record of using tanks to steamroll protesters in Tiananmen.

Since the 'liberation' of tibet, the communists have poured resources to wed tibet to the mainland. tibet is 1/6 of the landmass of modern china, an area conquered by the manchus decisively in the 17th century to thwart british, russian ambitions in the central asian region. The areas beyond tibet e.g. Uigurland are replete with minerals and gave the chinks a platform to project limited power in central asia. finally, no chinks wanted to be remembered as the traitor to 'surrender' tibet, hence the commies decided that economics could be used as a bind on tibet despite the fact that commies are usually inept economists.

The regime that enthroned the Dalai Lama belongs to what most peasants will call a theocratic society, where Dalai Lama, acting as God King rule the Tibetans with aid of a council of wise feudal lords. Decrees will be issued and tibetans are expected to obey without question because disobeying the god king is taboo. If you see the developments before and after the disposal of Dalai Lama, it is obvious who did a better job at providing goods and services for tibetans.

I have never seen any credible or authentic documentation that portrays him as a monster or autocrat. There are plenty of allegations, wild claims, but they remain as such..claims and allegations obviously propagated by the PRC commie apparatus over the years.

Mother Theresa was portrayed as an evil woman, a monster and devil in disguise. By people who found her work and charity an embarrassment to their ego and religion. Muslims and Hindus included. As before , the allegations remained just that. Allegations and malicious lies.

The world will accept credible proof if shown.
Nothing more or less.

Dalai Lama awarded despite China's anger
WASHINGTON
February 21, 2010

The Dalai Lama has been bestowed a US award for his commitment to democracy, the latest honour for the Tibetan spiritual leader, despite China's angry protests over his White House welcome.

One day after President Barack Obama met the exiled monk at the White House in defiance of Chinese warnings, the National Endowment for Democracy gave the Dalai Lama a medallion before a standing-room crowd at the Library of Congress.

The Endowment, funded by Congress, hailed the Dalai Lama for supporting a democratic government in exile and his willingness to even abolish his centuries-old spiritual position if Tibetans so chose.

Dalai Lama was born in the system where the tibetan buddhist clegy treated tibet as their personal feudal state. I am not suggesting he is an evil autocrat but note he is in a fix as he could not ignore his supporters who may have hidden agenda to return to tibet as feudal lords nor allowed the commies to run amok in tibet.

in life, we have choices, but usually as peasants, lesser of the two evils is our choice.

granted that dalai lama has control over tibet, could he restraint his followers who want a return to the feudal state of existence for tibet? Or is the barely subsistence lifestyle suitable for the tibetans? if the tibetans want a better life of grinding poverty, what can the world do except treating tibet as a place known as paradise lost?

Dalai Lama reminds me of Thailand's King Rama IX. Both are god kings but however they play a delicate game of balancing the various power hungry factions to prevent their country from falling apart.

When Thaksin announced US1 dollar health care for north eastern impoverished thais, the Bangkok elite decided to play the Support the King movement to oust Thaksin. If you remember, Northeast thailand and bangkok has never been on good terms since the days of King Taksin. Currently the Bangkok elite has turned the entire kingdom into a feudal state where the rich elite dictate what happens bases on their whims and fancies.
