Dairy Farm Group donates basic essentials to 4,000 needy families
SINGAPORE: Some 1,500 people did their bit for charity on Saturday morning by stomping about for several minutes.
The idea was to chalk up a total of one million steps for a community project by South West Community Development Council. The project, which was started in June, aims to hit 10 million steps in all for charity.
Their efforts on Saturday helped to secure S$100,000 worth of basic household items donated by retailer Dairy Farm Group. These will be distributed to 4,000 needy families.
The participants, who included Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S Iswaran and Mayor of South West District Amy Khor, also linked hands and sang the national day song, "We Are Singapore", setting a national record for such an activity.
Furthermore, Dairy Farm Group held a recruitment fair with 500 vacancies for job seekers across its various supermarkets, such as Cold Storage and 7-Eleven. Positions include sales assistants and store managers.
