KUANTAN - A man who was high on drugs slit his 11-month-old daughter's throat, telling family members he did it because "someone wants to possess me".
Nur Amirah Mohd Aswardey, who was to celebrate her first birthday on Nov 26, died in the 11.30pm horrific tragedy at Felda Panching Selatan near here on Friday.
OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said the 29-year-old father was alone with his daughter in the bedroom at that time.
"His 29-year-old wife went to the kitchen to prepare milk," he said.
The suspect's 48-year-old mother and a 22-year-old brother were in the other rooms. The couple have a two-year-old son.
"After the act, the man told his family that he loved his daughter very much, but he had to kill her because someone was about to possess him that night," said ACP Mohd Jasmani. "He then asked to be taken to the police station."
"A parang and a blood-stained knife were found in a room at the house," he added.
ACP Mohd Jasmani said the suspect, who is a settler, had three previous convictions for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature in 2003, theft in 2007 and rioting in 2008.
He has been remanded for a week.
