Punishment for loan shark runners has become more severe recently.
I guess most people would think that this is reasonable, as the loan shark runners cause a lot of damage, not only to the property of borrowers who default, but also to innocent people. It can also be argued that making the punishment more severe would be a deterrent to those thinking of being loan shark runners, even if they are desperate and had to do it in order to repay their own debts.
But have there been any reports of the masterminds behind such loan shark syndicates being caught? It seems that there are many reports of runners being caught and much ado about the increased severity of their punishment. But what about rounding up the masterminds and making their punishment really severe?
There was also discussion about the death penalty for drug runners. Again, that may be a deterrent for other people considering being runners. But have they considered that these people who become runners may have done it because they were desperate? That they were prepared to take the risk of death in order to earn a quick desperate buck?
What about the drug barons? They are the ones who should face the death penalty, that will really reduce the number of drug trafficking cases and eventually the number of addicts and potential deaths. If it is the drug runners who are rounded up and put to death, the barons will simply get another desperate person to be the runner. Like someone who wrote to the forum page, putting the runners to death may also mean that the identities of the barons and their lackeys will remain confidential forever.
